DARAGAC URBAN HABITATION

Architectural Design Studio Course, Fall 2020
Individual Work
Instructors: Dr. Ece Küreli Gülpınar, Hugh David Clarke, Filiz Özkan

The project takes place in the Daragac neighborhood. It is a small-scale neighborhood that has a heterogeneous
character incorporating industrial buildings, abandoned factories, warehouses, and two-story residences, some of which date back to the early 20th century. Although the quality of buildings and public spaces in the area is currently rather poor, the
neighborhood is in part quite vibrant. An example of this improvement is the Daragaç Initiative, an artist’s
cooperative that moved to the neighborhood a year or two ago and started to live, work, exhibit, and socialize there.
