The project is in the Kite Sport area in Gulbache village in the Izmir region and consists of reorganizing the school areas by the sea. The site has a very specific natural ecosystem which is where the schools are located. The goal of the project is to rearrange the kite schools with an architectonical ‘Unitarian’ language and planning strategy that would blend and enhance the natural ecosystem allowing the school to operate in harmony with nature.
The lack of references around the site was a big challenge during the design phase. Thus, the main focus was on lanscape and natural boundaries. A horizontal design approach has been adopted to maximize the relationship of the project with the area. In this way, the project provides visual integrity along the coastline. The project consists of 5 surf schools and several WCs and locker cabins. Visitors have to follow a few-minute road to reach the schools. This short walk offers people the opportunity to appreciate space and nature, even for a short time. Throughout the project, the fundamental design approach was communal places that were used collectively. All kite school units are connected by a single deck. This deck turns into roads in some places and provides access to the whole area.
